Adele's Rolling in the Deep is a song about a failed romantic relationship. According to Adele, ‚"it‚'s me saying get out of my house instead of me begging him to come back." To me, the song is a metaphor for widespread disenchantment with the American dream which culminates in societal fracture. America promises prosperity and equal justice for all but, as shown in the events leading up to the 1968 riots, the Los Angeles riots of 1992, the Ferguson riots, and the recent unrest in Minneapolis and beyond, sometimes the system fails and we need to reinvent and rebuild to create a more equitable society. "Building the Future‚" represents the possible journey from the strife of modern U.S history to a Utopian future of racial equality, justice, and universal prosperity.
